Kiwi golfer Steve Alker has shot into the lead of the Boise Open on the Web.Com Tour today.

With one day to play, the 42-year-old leads by two strokes after posting a 6-under round of 65.

He needs a solid fourth round to nail his second win on the second-tier circuit this season having earlier won the Cleveland Open after an 11-hole playoff.

Alker could surge to third on the tour money list, up 16 places from 19th, which would secure his full PGA Tour card for next season.

At Boise he had earlier hit rounds of 62 and 66 to be in third place.

Trailing him two shots back now are Americans Steve Wheatcroft, who also had a 65 today, and Zack Sucher.

In his 65 at the Hillcrest Country Club, Alker started with a bogey on the first hole but tipped the round on its head with an eagle on the par-5 third to go with five birdies.
