LYDIA KO: The young Kiwi golf star has been battling the pain of an injured wrist and could undergo surgery as soon as next month.

A leading specialist had advised Lydia Ko to have surgery on her left wrist and the talented teen could go under the knife as early as early as next month.

The 17-year-old world No 3 has battled pain in her wrist through recent tournaments and coach David Leadbetter has been reported as saying a cyst on Ko's wrist has grown.

Leadbetter has put Ko in touch with a leading surgeon who advised Ko to have surgery.

The coach told Radio Sport Ko might have to take several weeks off after the surgery - likely to be after next month's fifth and final major of the year, the Evian Championship in France.

Ko's injury is manageable and she will still play defend her Canadian Open title this weekend in London, Ontario.
