Oscar-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr has been lined up to play golfer Tiger Woods in a TV movie based on his recent marriage indiscretions, according to dailyexpress.co.uk.

Woods caused a worldwide sensation when reports about his alleged affairs with up to 14 women were revealed.

He has since announced he is taking an indefinite break from professional golf "to focus my attention on being a better husband, father, and person".

However, as soon as the Woods story made headlines, the battle began to dramatise the scandal for the screen.

"It makes a great movie because people love the drama of seeing someone really successful fall from the top and then scramble to pick up the pieces of their life," a leading Hollywood producer told dailyexpress.co.uk on condition of anonymity.

"It proves that even the world's greatest athlete is human just like the rest of us but the movie needs to be made before the public loses interest in Tiger so the race is now on."

Following his accident on November 27, where he crashed his car into a fire hydrant and a tree outside his Florida mansion, Woods has suffered a litany of embarrassing revelations including claims he was with one of his mistresses on the night his beloved father Earl died.

The fallout continues as he faces a probe by US tax authorities over reports of cash payments to his mistresses and a loss of earnings as his sponsors distance themselves from the scandal.

Woods' marital infidelity has destroyed as much as $12 billion (NZ$16 billion) in stock value, according to two US professors.

Now Hollywood is coming after the sports star who has always vigorously guarded his privacy.
