New Zealand golfer Ryan Fox is right in the mix at the midway point of the Australian amateur strokeplay championship in Perth.

Fox shot a six-under-par 66 in the second round yesterday for a tournament card of five-under 139, in fourth place just four shots behind the leader, Matt Jager.

He was the only New Zealander inside the top-32 players who will qualify for the matchplay phase starting on Monday.

Of the official New Zealand team, North Island champion Nick Gillespie, of Hastings, shared 33rd place on 146 after posting a second round of 74.

Masterton's Ben Campbell was one shot back after a 75 while Tauranga's Andrew Stewart shot a 74 to be on 150, on the cut line for the leading 150 players to contest the final two rounds.

Other New Zealand players to make the cut for the weekend included Queensland-based Blake McGrory and Waikato's Tane Robson on 146, Tauranga's Kieran Muir and Auckland's Ben Wallace on 149 and James Hamilton, of Tauranga) on 150.
