New Zealand's Mark Brown will be around for the weekend at the British Open after surviving on the cut-line after a three-hour wait.

Brown, the only New Zealander in the field for the 142nd Open, finished his second round at Muirfield at eight-over for the tournament with a two-over 73, at that stage four strokes from the projected cut-line.

However, as scoring conditions toughened due to wind and a drying course, the cut-line slowly started moving back, eventually ending at +8.

The 38-year-old made three birdies in his last 10 holes in a round that also included five bogeys.

After early bogeys to drift away from the cut-line, Brown gave himself a chance, with back-to-back birdies on the par-five ninth and par-four 10th to get back to +7.

Starting the day at six-over, he bogeyed the par-four first and third holes, then the par-three seventh to be +9.

Brown had a short turnaround between his first and second rounds of around 13 hours.
