Brisbane's first-up win over the Cowboys last weekend obviously failed to impress one big better who on Wednesday tossed $A100,000 on the Broncos to miss the top eight.

Brisbane have made the finals for the past 18 seasons straight but the NSW punter claimed TAB Sportsbet for $A100,000 to $A80,000 (odds of $A1.80) about Ivan Henjak's men missing the finals this year.

It's the biggest bet ever placed on Brisbane to miss to top eight so early in the season.

"He's a regular rugby league punter," said TAB Sportsbet's Glenn Munsie, adding the Broncos were one of the least supported to teams to win the premiership at $A21.

With three debutants and no Karmichael Hunt, Brisbane beat North Queensland 30-24 after racing to a 24-0 lead early in the first half.

But Munsie said they were $A2.10 outsiders to beat Canberra in Canberra on Monday night.

In strange week of game betting, five winners from last week's first round are getting a start this weekend.

The last time Henjak took the Broncos to the capital they were embarrassed 56-0, something Brisbane's players will be reminded off regularly before Monday night's clash.
