Newcastle captain Kurt Gidley has confirmed his NRL season is over with the Knights utility to undergo a shoulder reconstruction.

Gidley dislocated his shoulder for the second time this season against Penrith last week and visited his surgeon in Sydney on Monday when it was confirmed he would be sidelined for the rest of 2012.

"I'm really really disappointed to announce that my season is unfortunately over. Need a shoulder reconstruction. Devastating," Gidley said on his Twitter account.

The news is a massive blow to the Knights, who have also lost Danny Buderus (Achilles) for around a month, with the side turning in a below-par effort without the duo in Sunday's 24-6 loss to the Sydney Roosters.

What do you make of the doping bans given to Sharks players?

I think the punishment fits the crime.

It's a farce. The whole investigation was a joke.

I haven't really followed the whole thing.

What? Some players have been banned?
