Sam Perrett will play for Sydney Roosters in Sunday's match against Manly, but it may be his last for the club with the Kiwi international still hoping to join the Bulldogs before June 30.
Perrett and hooker Anthony Mitchell, who also wants a mid-season transfer to join North Queensland, were yesterday named in the Roosters team to play the Sea Eagles as the uncertainty over their futures continues.
However, Perrett's 18-year-old brother Lloyd, who has also signed with Canterbury, is expected to be granted an immediate release today in a swap with Bulldogs under-20s lock Samisoni Langi, who was due to join the Roosters next season.
Perrett will resume training with the Roosters today after being given yesterday off and is expected to be ready to play on Sunday on the wing.
The Roosters have a bye next week and with injured backs Peni Tagive (hamstring) and Shaun Kenny-Dowall (foot) expected back for the following match, there is a chance Perrett will be released after Sunday's game.
If he does not secure a release before June 30, he will have to play out the season with the Roosters before joining Canterbury next year on a three-year deal.
Meanwhile, Wests Tigers captain Robbie Farah yesterday asked to be named in the team to meet Newcastle next Monday night, but a final decision on whether the NSW hooker plays just eight days after the death of his mother, Sonia, will be made later in the week.
In other news, Manly back-rower Glenn Stewart has not given up hope of playing in Origin III, despite being diagnosed with a partial tear to the medial ligament in his left knee that Sea Eagles officials estimate will sideline him for between three and four weeks.
NSW assistant coach Trent Barrett said Melbourne's Ryan Hoffman and St George Illawarra's Beau Scott would be candidates to replace Stewart, along with his Manly teammate Tony Williams, who is recovering from a back injury sustained in Origin I.
''Ryan's there and there's also Beau Scott who has been there and done a terrific job for us before and T-Rex may be fit,'' Barrett said. ''We've got some options.''
This Friday, Dragons back-rower Matt Prior will play his first game since a five-match suspension for elbowing North Queensland skipper Johnathan Thurston. Prior has been named on the bench for the Dragons' clash with Gold Coast.
The Titans will welcome back Jamal Idris who rolled his ankle last week and missed the game against the Panthers.
