Parramatta’s hopes of avoiding a the NRL wooden spoon were dealt a huge blow today with star fullback Jarryd Hayne ruled out for the remainder of the season with a medial ligament injury to his right knee.
Hayne, has struggled all season with a variety of injuries, but made a surprise return from a foot problem to inspire the cellar-dwelling Eels to a shock win over Melbourne on Saturday in Stephen Kearney’s final game as coach.
The 2009 Dally M medallist will undergo surgery in the next 24 hours to repair the grade three tear, and will subsequently miss the remainder of the campaign and potentially the Kangaroos’ one-off Test against New Zealand in October.
