Standoff James Maloney is an ''outside chance'' of playing for the Warriors in their must-win match against the Cowboys in Townsville this weekend.

Maloney, playing in his last year with the club before heading to the Roosters in 2013, injured his right knee in the first half of the Warriors' 45-4 loss to the Sharks last Sunday.

Under-20s star Carlos Tuimavave was named to fill the no.6 jersey, yet coach Brian McClennan said Maloney will travel with the team and could potentially earn a last minute recall to play on Saturday.

''Jim is still an outside chance, actually,'' McClennan told Fairfax Media.

''He's healing fairly quickly so we'll see how that pans out as we get closer to the game. Straight after the game [vs the Sharks], we were thinking two weeks but let's see. We're very confident in Carlos [who made his debut against the Sharks] though.''

Veteran back rower Micheal Luck will return for the Warriors this weekend, having only played two games this season with wrist and shoulder issues this year. Rookie centre Konrad Hurrell also returns from a foot injury.

Giant winger Manu Vatuvei remains the Warriors captain in the continued absence of an injured Simon Mannering. He is yet to claim a victory as club skipper.
