Nathan Tinkler's right-hand man is preparing to meet Knights Members Club directors on Monday to tell them Hunter Sports Group (HSG) will not hand back Newcastle's NRL licence.

According to the Newcastle Herald, HSG chief executive Troy Palmer will tell the meeting that Tinkler will not walk away from Newcastle.

Palmer told the newspaper his boss was in much better financial shape than what has been reported in recent months, adding he had invested too much money and time into the Knights and A-League team the Newcastle Jets.

He said a tax bill of almost $3.2 million would be paid within seven to 10 days, all of HSG's creditors would be paid, and that an audit report into the Knights' 2012 financial operations would reveal HSG had met all requirements.

"We're not going anywhere. We haven't done all this work and made this investment in Newcastle and brought a lot of good people to this town to walk away. We're 100 per cent committed to this," Palmer said.

"Yes, there's things we can do better, and things we should apologise for if we've impacted on people, but we have not let Newcastle down. We have never once let Newcastle down, and no one has ever benefited Newcastle more than Nathan has, and I think people forget that."

Palmer said he was unaware of any plans by the members club to ask Tinkler to hand back the NRL licence.

"I'm open and transparent on all the issues and have no concerns at all to meet with the members club," Palmer said.
