Salford forward Ryan Lannon was punished for celebrating too soon during his side's Challenge Cup victory over Hull.

"He was reading that in the paper tomorrow morning," quipped the television commentator but English rugby league player Ryan Lannon won't be laughing, even if his embarrassing gaffe didn't cost his team a place in the Challenge Cup quarterfinals.

The 21-year-old Salford forward was tackled just metres short of the tryline after making a 50m break during the team's victory over Hull.

Lannon was so adamant that he was about to cross for his second try of the game that he was celebrating with the line in sight, one arm raised in the air, only to be brought down by Nick Scruton's last ditch ankle tap before he could score.

To make matters worse, Lannon injured his hamstring in the process.

It's unlikely he will make that mistake again, later tweeting "live and learn" with a link to the video.
