Kiwi motocross freestyler Levi Sherwood has finished third in the Madrid stage of the Red Bull X-Fighters today.

Before 23,000 fans Sherwood missed out on the final and a shot at the title but managed to win the showdown for the final place on the podium against home crowd favourite Danny Torres.

Sherwood, the 2012 world tour champion, finished behind eventual French winner Tom Pages and runner-up, Australian Josh Sheehan.

The result leave Sherwood top of the season standings on 200 points ahead of Sheehan (160) and Pages (145).

There are two stages of the series remaining, Munich, Germany next month and Pretoria, South Africa in August.
