Scott Dixon eighth at Honda Indy Toronto
Kiwi IndyCar driver Scott Dixon has finished eighth in the Honda Indy Toronto race, but retained his grip on third place in the championship standings.
Dixon started Monday's (NZ time) race on the streets of the Canadian city on the second row, but never threatened the lead, having to settle for eighth place.
American Josef Newgarden recorded his second career victory, winning from Italian Luca Filippi and Brazil's Helio Castoneves, with pole-sitter Will Power fourth.
The good news for Dixon was that he lost little ground in the championship standings; he started the race 43 points behind Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya and finished it 45 points adrift, with Australian Power second overall, 27 points behind Montoya.
There are six races left in the 16-race season.
