Evans faces stiff competition for GP2 spot

Mitch Evans has GP2 champion team DAMS courting him, with the Kiwi motorsport ace testing with them in Spain.

Evans is looking to make the jump to GP2 after winning this year's GP3 drivers' championship.

He faces a busy two days at the famous Jerez track which is new to him.

He will test with both DAMS and Arden, the team he worked with during his GP3 success and who gave him his first GP2 test at Barcelona last month.

If he can impress both outfits, Evans will be in a powerful bargaining position in his bid to get a drive for next year.

DAMS are a powerful outfit, guiding Romain Grosjean and David Valsecchi to the last two GP2 titles, and also winning the teams' crown this year.

But Evans has a bit of competition.

Experienced GP2 racers Marcus Ericsson, Stephane Richelmi and Rio Haryanto are also testing with DAMS, while Auto GP champion Adrian Quaife-Hobbs and Johnny Cecotto Jr are trying-out with Arden.
