New Zealand motorcycling legend Andrew Stroud has been taken to Palmerston North Hospital after crashing while racing in the second round of the Suzuki Tri-Series at Manfeild today.
After rolling for about 100 metres in the grass and dirt, he was attended to by medical staff before being put in an ambulance on a stretcher.
He had been able to get up and walk to the ambulance but had his shoulder heavily strapped.
The Hamilton father of nine had been vying for the lead with Sloan Frost heading into the final corner in the first of two superbike races. They had to pass two back markers and to avoid them, Stroud and Frost were pushed out to the grass on the outside of the track.
Frost stayed on his bike and carried on to win.
If, as suspected, Stroud has a broken collarbone and dislocated knee, it would almost certainly rule him out of the Cemetery Circuit round at Wanganui on Boxing Day.
