A serious crash has been reported at Teretonga Park Raceway, after 4.30pm today.

A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said one person had been taken to Southland Hospital, Invercargill, with serious injuries.

Duane Fox, a flag marshall at the raceway, said an investigation was under way into the crash.

The driver's condition was not known, he said.

A witness at the track, said two formula 5000 cars crashed into a safety wall of tyres.

The crash looked pretty serious, the witness said.

The cars have been removed from the track.

Drivers were on the track testing today ahead of the Classic Speedfest which starts tomorrow.

No other details are available yet.
