Christchurch motorsport driver Stan Redmond has died.

Redmond, 65, was injured in a two-car crash at Invercargill's Teretonga Park last Friday afternoon. The incident occurred during testing of the track before the Classic Speedfest event.

Redmond was initially taken by St John ambulance to Southland Hospital, but was flown to Dunedin Hospital later that night.

Motorsport enthusiasts have expressed their grief on a Formula 5000 Facebook page.

Peter Ellenbogen posted a tribute on the page.

"Devastated - again - that someone who gave motorsport fans so much enjoyment is lost while pursuing his passion. Thank you for the precious memories you gave us all from behind the wheel, Stan Redmond. My thoughts at this time are with his family,'' he wrote.

Jackie Richards wrote: "We will all miss your smiling face and Irish humour. F5000 racing will never be the same.''
