Danica Patrick's boyfriend puts her in spin
SHANE DE BARRA
Dancia Patrick may be one of the most well respected and decorated women ever to grace the world of motorsport, but that counted for little when her boyfriend sent her crashing out of a Nascar race they were both competing in.
Patrick, 31, who won the Indy Japan 300 during her stint in IndyCar and finished third in the 2009 Indianapolis 500, was racing the Sprint Cup Series Coca-Cola 600 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway when the incident took place on Sunday night (local time).
With 82 laps of the 400-lap race to go, Patrick's partner - fellow Nascar racer Ricky Stenhouse Jr - decided to give the lady in his life a little nudge in the wrong direction; sending her careering into competitor Brad Keselowski's car and ending both their races prematurely.
In the immediate aftermath of the race it was Keselowski who put his hand up to accept responsibility for the accident.
"I was three wide with Danica and didn't know it and I cut her off and wrecked her and myself," Keselowski said in a television interview after the race.
"I feel bad for her and I send my apologies to her."
However, on closer inspection it seems Stenhouse Jr could have spent a night on the couch as he clearly made contact with his girlfriend's car, nudging it in the direction of Keselowski's vehicle when all three were running side-by-side coming into a corner.
Whatever the domestic outcome of the race was, all now seems to be forgiven with Stenhouse Jr taking to Twitter earlier today to say: "Great day on the lake with @DanicaPatrick and friends now time for some grillin out. Thank u to all who r serving and have served #blessed."
He surely is.
