A motorcyclist is in a critical condition after a crash at Manfeild Park, just outside Palmerston North this afternoon.

The male has been taken by St John's Ambulance to Palmerston North Hospital with multiple injuries after the accident at about 4pm.

It is understood the rider was competing in a Winter Series event organised by the Wellington-based Victoria Motorcycle Club. Event organiser Andrew Presant declined to comment.

Last year Wellington's Mark Brehaut was killed at Manfeild in a Victoria Motorcycle Club event.

The 45-year-old died on the track after his motorbike collided with another on the main straight.

The last fatality at Manfeild before that was in 2005, also at a Victoria event when Owen Brunton, 50, died in a crash involving several riders.
