Kayla Cullen's netball career continues to take off as energy drinks giant Red Bull signs her to a personal sponsorship.

Silver Ferns star Kayla Cullen has become the first netball player to gain a contract with Red Bull.

The energy drinks company sponsors a wide variety of athletes around the world, mainly in adventure and motor sports.

But the 23-year-old Cullen has broken through for netball and she's mighty proud of that.

"So excited to join some of the best athletes in the world and be part of the @redbull family. There are only 749 of us in the world and to be the first ever netballer is unreal and words cannot express how grateful I am!!," Cullen tweeted on Saturday.

Cullen, the versatile Northern Mystics player,  has been in the headlines recently as she spent a good part of the summer in the company of New Zealand Warriors star Shaun Johnson, saying "we're great friends".

Other Kiwis with Red Bull deals include motorsport ace Mitch Evans, FMX star Levi Shewood, and mountain biker Brook Macdonald.
