Netball fans will get an early taste of trans-Tasman action next month when the Melbourne Vixens host a pre-season event.

The Vixens, who were beaten in last year's grand final, will host seven teams from the ANZ tournament in a "Summer Challenge", on February 23 and 24.

Last year hosted by the champion Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic side in Tauranga, New Zealand, the teams taking part include the Queensland Firebirds, Adelaide Thunderbirds, West Coast Fever, NSW Swifts, Southern Steel, Canterbury Tactix and the Vixens.

The event will be held at the State Netball Hockey Centre.

The Victorian government announced on Thursday it would provide a $30,000 grant through the Significant Sporting Events Program.

The Vixens open their season proper against the Northern Mystics in Auckland on March 25.
