The Northern Mystics will be without star defender Anna Harrison for the trans-Tasman netball season after she announced she is three months pregnant with her first child.

Harrison, who was named co-captain of the Mystics just four weeks ago, made waves last season for the 'Harrison Hoist', where she was lifted by her fellow defender to swat away the ball around the hoop.

“There were a lot of mixed emotions telling the girls," said Harrison.

"I’m definitely going to miss being part of the playing group, but I’m also looking forward to contributing to their success in other ways.

While happy news for Harrison, the loss is a blow for the Mystics who are already without defender Charlotte Kight who has injured her Achilles.

Australian Diamond defender Julie Corletto will shoulder most of the load at the defensive end with Jess Moulds likely to step into the other starting defender spot after a strong rookie season last year.
