The Northern Mystics have signed Hayley Saunders for the 2013 season in order to boost their depleted defensive ranks.

The Auckland side have lost Silver Fern Anna Harrison to pregnancy and Charlotte Kight to injury before the season has even tipped off.

Saunders previously played for the Southern Steel from 2010 to 2012. She is a former New Zealander under-21 and FastNet representative.

Coach Ruth Aitken said: "Hayley trained with the team last week and her past experience and commitment really showed through. We are delighted that Hayley has been able to make a lot of changes to her life in a very short space of time to enable her to move to Auckland and join the team."

The trans-Tasman netball season begins March 24 when the Queensland Firebirds take on Saunders former team, the Southern Steel.

The Mystics season starts with a home game against the Melbourne Vixens on March 25.
