The Tactix have pulled off the signing of Malawi goal shoot Mwai Kumwenda.

Kumwenda will create history, becoming the first Malawi international to play in the trans-Tasman netball league next season.

She replaces English international Jo Harten, who has defected to the Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic after two years with the Tactix.

Kumwenda has lived in Melbourne for the past three years and been standout performer at state level in Victoria.

The 23-year-old played for the title-winning Victorian Fury in the Australian Netball League for the first time this season and was named most valuable player of the competition. She broke a competition record for most number of goals scored in a season.

In last year's Fast5 series in Auckland, Kumwenda announced herself to netball fans with some exciting play against some of the best defenders in the world.

Kumwenda's signing means the Tactix have nine players contracted for next season and now have three spots available in their squad for 2014.
