Southern Steel netball coach Reinga Bloxham is 'absolutely stoked' for her predecessor Noeline Taurua.

Taurua, who mentored Bloxham during the Steel's 2016 ANZ Championship campaign, masterminded an inaugural competition win for the Sunshine Coast Lightning in Australia's inaugural domestic Super Netball title, with a 65-48 win over the Sydney-based Giants in the final played in Brisbane on Saturday.

According to Bloxham, Taurua just had a real belief that she could win the title, despite coaching a new franchise, against more established teams.

"I knew that she had prepared her team, she would have done everything in her power to prepare her team the best that she could. It was great to see them have a good convincing win," Bloxham said.

"It shows the absolute leader that she is and that she is so good at bringing a team together for one common goal and just the belief she has in herself, her players, her management team and franchise. She has built them from the ground-up and just look at the foundation she has set for them. It is just amazing really."

The Steel and Lightning share a working relationship, after Taurua made such a big impression in her one-year stint in the south.

The Lightning hosted the Steel in a pre-season series in February, with the Steel hoping to reciprocate and host the Super Netball champions in early 2018, although the Steel's focus is currently on the ANZ Premiership and Super Club tournament.

"I know that is something we have talked about in our franchise. It would be great to have the Lightning over and have some game play against them at a later stage, but at the moment it is definitely not our focus," Bloxham said.
