British Judoka Ashley McKenzie has let it all out at the Rio Olympics.

The 27-year-old lost to Kazakhstan's Yeldos Smetov in the round of 16 of the men's under-60kg judo competition, and was later spotted on his knees crying out the back of the venue.

McKenzie posted a picture of the heart-breaking scene on Instagram and Twitter.

Speaking to media in Rio after his loss, McKenzie was already fighting back tears.

"Unfortunately with judo, you only get one chance," he said.

"I think the tears are because of my hard work over four years, putting my family through stuff.

"I just want to thank my family and friends at all. Thanks for being there, really."

McKenzie's emotional post received an outpouring of sympathy on social media.
