Manawatu cyclist Jesse Sergent has done his chances of Commonwealth Games selection no harm by claiming a podium finish at the prestigious Tour de Romandie in Switzerland overnight.
Sergent, racing for his Trek Factory Racing team in the final stage time trial, finished third behind overall winner and Tour de France champion Chris Froome and German Tony Martin.
"I gave it a crack in the time trial today," Sergent said. "I was happy with my performance and third place is a nice way to end the Tour de Romandie."
Froome won in 24 minutes and 51 seconds with Martin one second behind and Sergent eight seconds back in third.
Sergent is expected to be available for selection for July's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with the road team to be announced later this month.
