The Black Sticks men's unbeaten run at the Hockey World Cup was clincially ended by Argentina 3-1.

Gonzalo Peillat scored a second-half hat-trick, all from penalty corners, as the Argentines put away New Zealand, who could only manage three total shots.

Stephen Jenness scored the Black Sticks' only goal in the 49th minute.

Peillat found the back of the cage in the 44th, 51st and 63rd minutes, converting on three of Argentina's four penalty corners. The three goals were Argentina's only shots on target.

Argentina joined New Zealand on six points in Group B after three matches, but the Netherlands could take the group lead against Germany later today.

The Black Sticks men face Germany in their next match on Sunday night (8.30pm NZ time), before their final Group B match against the Netherlands on Wednesday morning (5.45am NZ time).

The New Zealand women's side play Japan in their next match on Sunday morning (3.30am NZ time), needing victory to maintain their faint semifinal hopes.

Opinion poll

Will Shane Cameron beat Kali Meehan on Saturday?

For sure. Cameron will knock him out.

It will be close but I think Cameron on points.

Meehan will knock him out. This is his last fight.

I'm tipping Meehan to win on points.
