Live ice hockey: Dance of the desperates

Last updated 15:00 06/07/2014

It is shaping up as a dance of the desperates this weekend in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League (NZIHL) with the two bottom teams squaring off.

The West Auckland Admirals host the Southern Stampede twice at Paradice Avondale, in what will be crucial games for both sides.

The half way point of the season is fast approaching and the Admirals sit last with just one overtime win from four games, while the Stampede are just ahead of them with two wins from their six games.

Two decisive wins for the Stampede could see them leapfrog the Dunedin Thunder into second place and the all important playoff spot.

The Admirals will also be seeking a double success, as even one loss will see them slip further behind the Thunder.

However, they have been a tad unlucky this season and pushed the unbeaten Canterbury Red Devils all the way in their two clashes with them earlier in the season.

The Admirals and Stampede will meet at 4.45pm today in Stuff's feature game of the weekend. Save this link and return here at that time to catch all the action.

Will Shane Cameron beat Kali Meehan on Saturday?

For sure. Cameron will knock him out.

It will be close but I think Cameron on points.

Meehan will knock him out. This is his last fight.

I'm tipping Meehan to win on points.
