North Harbour teenager Pita Rona has joined his father in the New Zealand men's softball training squad.

The 16-year-old utility player has been called into the squad as a replacement for former Black Sox captain Jarrad Martin, who has made himself unavailable for the team's tour to Australia in December due to business commitments.

A 30-strong squad are to attend a training camp in Auckland on September 17-19 before coach Eddie Kohlhase confirms his tour squad of 17.

Rona joins his father, Brad, 34, in the training squad.

While Black Sox teams have contained various sets of brothers over the years a father-son combination have yet to be selected at the same time.
