Leading New Zealand freestyle skiier Jossi Wells failed to qualify for the final of the Ski Big Air at the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado.

Wells claimed bronze in the event last year, but finished fifth and last in his heat after only managing a total of 70 points from the best two of his five jumps.

Sweden's Henrik Harlaut went on to win the gold. The 21-year-old landed an unprecedented nose butter triple cork 1620 for a perfect 50-point score in his first jump that left the crowd roaring in awe.

Harlaut had never tried the trick before the weekend, and combined with his trademark nose butter double cork 1260s, he finished with 97 of a possible 100 points in the final, six higher than runner-up Kai Mahler of Switzerland.

Opinion poll

Will Shane Cameron beat Kali Meehan on Saturday?

For sure. Cameron will knock him out.

It will be close but I think Cameron on points.

Meehan will knock him out. This is his last fight.

I'm tipping Meehan to win on points.
