British Olympic officials may want to review their security procedures after two imposters snuck into the athletes' homecoming parade using nothing more than Team GB gear and plastic medals.

The pair made their way on to the float near the start of the ceremony in Manchester on Tuesday (NZ time) and were even interviewed on live TV by Sky News as they tried to pass themselves off as fencing gold medallists.

It sounded all too easy with one of the imposters saying they were "ushered on against our will" as they eventually came clean on camera.

"We got the medals and we just thought, you know, we'd give it a go," he said.

"We actually got ushered on, it was actually completely against our will.

"We blag something every now and then but we're going to get off at the next stop."
