Sarah Walker went straight to hospital for an x-ray after being eliminated from the BMX world championships in Auckland today.

The Olympic silver medalist crashed in training this morning before her three moto races to qualify for the afternoon knockout stage.

Walker has a suspected broken collar bone on the same side as her broken arm.

Although she wasn't able to race, Walker took to the start line for her three races but just rolled around the 300m track while the other seven riders raced against each other.

As the public face of the event Walker was close to tears when she crossed the finish line for the third and final time.

"It has been great to at least get on the gate, that was my goal," Walker said straight afterwards.

"Unfortunately the crash this morning was pretty big and I'll head to the hospital for an x-ray. But yeah, I'm gutted.

"Into the first corner I went off to the left side. I protected my shoulder and my arm, curled up into a ball."

Despite having a broken arm and possibly a collar bone too, Walker said she didn't feel too much pain as she coasted around the course.

"I've had a local anaesthetic on my shoulder just so I could get through the rounds," she said.

"It was good to be able to get up on the track and at least show my face for some racing.

"Unfortunately it's not how I wanted it to go. I would have loved to have given it my best shot, but to be able to roll around the track and wave to the fans and thank them for coming was nice.

"I'll go to the hospital now," she added.

"The initial idea of what I've done is potentially chip the end of my collar bone.

"I'm pretty good at picking my breaks, usually I know straight away. This one I wasn't sure about but when they kept pressing this one spot it's quite tender.

"Hopefully it's not broken, but if it is it's in a place that's not going to be too much of a hassle."

After going to hospital Walker plans to return to Vector Arena later in the day to cheer on the New Zealanders in the finals.

Opinion poll

Will Shane Cameron beat Kali Meehan on Saturday?

For sure. Cameron will knock him out.

It will be close but I think Cameron on points.

Meehan will knock him out. This is his last fight.

I'm tipping Meehan to win on points.
