Trespassing allegations against Team New Zealand by America's Cup holders Oracle are "laughable", the New Zealanders say.
In a protest to the International Jury Oracle say that members of Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa trespassed on an Oracle AC45 in an attempt to gain information.
Team New Zealand rejected the allegation in a statement today.
"A Yachting New Zealand crew which is competing in the Youth America's Cup is using the Emirates Team New Zealand's AC45. ETNZ has provided support, including helping to prepare the yacht for competition. The YNZ AC45 was parked alongside an Oracle yacht on common ground at Pier 30/32," the statement said.
The Oracle protest alleges Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa crewmen had broken a protocol that covers reconnaissance.
Oracle were found guilty of spying on Team New Zealand this year, resulting in a fine and a loss of training days.
The jury will decide tomorrow if an investigation is warranted.
Team New Zealand say Oracle are trying to confuse issues ahead of Oracle's jury hearing on allegations of gross misconduct after they admitted tampering with the AC45s in which they won the last two world series titles.
It's another messy time in a messy regatta.
But it could prove telling.
Any penalties involving training days at this late stage of the regatta would be a blow.
Oracle faces a much sterner examination and possible penalties if found guilty.
