Promising shot putter Tom Walsh has thrown 20.45 metres at an athletics meet in Melbourne today to set a New Zealand record.

Walsh, who recorded 20.30m last weekend in Christchurch, continued his excellent form to beat the previous record by 7cm.

Rival Jacko Gill's best of 20.38m was obliterated with a throw that exceeded the qualifying distance for the world indoor championships in Poland this coming March.

The new record also beat the B qualifying standard for next year's Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Will Shane Cameron beat Kali Meehan on Saturday?

For sure. Cameron will knock him out.

It will be close but I think Cameron on points.

Meehan will knock him out. This is his last fight.

I'm tipping Meehan to win on points.
