New Zealand light-heavyweight boxer Robbie Berridge has broken into the world's top 10 in the latest rankings.

The hard-hitting Aucklander is at No 10 with the respected World Boxing Organisation.

The ranking takes Berridge - who has inked a deal to fight fellow Kiwi Adrian Taihia on May 22 - a step closer to his dream of fighting for the world title.

Berridge has never been stopped in his 23 professional fights. His only loss, to Australian Blake Caparello in 2012, came via the judges at the end of 10 rounds.

Southpaw Berridge, dubbed, "The Butcher", holds of the WBO's Oriental light-heavyweight title as well as Danny Green's old PABA light-heavyweight belt.

"It means plenty to my supporters and promoters," Berridge said of earning a place in the top 10.

"It's a sign that the hard work that we are all putting in is paying off."

Respected boxing website BoxRec.com added to Berridge's big week by naming him as the best pound-for-pound fighter in New Zealand.

Opinion poll

Will Shane Cameron beat Kali Meehan on Saturday?

For sure. Cameron will knock him out.

It will be close but I think Cameron on points.

Meehan will knock him out. This is his last fight.

I'm tipping Meehan to win on points.
