Roxy Bromac continues her winning ways
Roxy Bromac continued her successful association with grass tracks at the Banks Peninsula harness meeting at Motukarara yesterday.
The Paul Young-trained pacer, handled by his daughter Jessica, took full advantage of a dream trailing run in the pacing feature to claim victory over a tidy field.
The daughter of Bettor's Delight has won all four of her races on grass tracks but Young said she could be just as effective on the all weather tracks.
"She's just as good on the grit as what she is on the grass," he said.
"I'd like to think she could win another couple of races yet, she has really nice speed off the back of another horse and when she gets those really good runs she can use that to her advantage."
Anthony Butt is smiling as the Hunter Cup approaches after tough pacer Mah Sish turned in a career best performance at Ballarat on Friday night.
Trained by his brother Tim, Mah Sish wore down the talented Sushi Sushi to win the A$150,000 (NZ$186,570) race after sitting three wide without cover for most of the last lap.
"He's really improved in the last month or so, he had to do it hard to get past the other horse but he really kept fighting."
Fellow Kiwis Highview Tommy and Dr Hook also won across the Tasman on Friday night.
The golden run of Riccarton trainers Shane Kennedy and Anna Furlong continued on Saturday when they prepared under-rated galloper Dozintmateranyway to claim the $50,000 Listed Timaru Stakes on their home track.
The duo have enjoyed a good run of form in recent weeks and extended that with a treble of victories. Dozintmateranyway was facing a rise in grade for Saturday's assignment but handled the strong field with aplomb to win under the ride of Andrew Calder. A winner at Kumara two weeks ago, the Danske gelding has now won six from 18 starts and placed on five occasions for more than $71,000 in stakes. Kennedy and Furlong took their season tally to 14 with wins by Sylvie's Dream and Keeparunnin also.
