Lazarus, seen here winning the New Zealand Trotting Cup at Addington, won the Taylor Mile at Alexandra Park on Friday night.

Lazarus jogged around Alexandra Park to claim the $100,000 Group I Taylor Mile on Friday night.

The Mark Purdon-Natalie Rasmussen claimed the trifecta, with Waikiki Beach second and Golden Goddess a game third.

It was slim pickings for punters though. They only got their money back on the win and place tote for Lazarus, while the trifecta paid $2.30 and the first 4 with Max Phactor fourth paying $4.60.

Purdon took Lazarus from the outside draw to the lead with a lap and a quarter to go and it was pretty much all over from there.

His stablemates tried hard, but couldn't match him as he clocked a flat two minutes for the 1700m, a mile rate of 1.53.6.

It took him to 26 wins from 31 starts and he will attempt to make it 27 in the NZ Messenger, another $100,000 Group 1, back at the park next Friday.

It will be his last start before going for a break.

Canterbury stables had a clean sweep of the Group I events on the night, with Purdon and Rasmussen taking the 2YO Classic with Elle Mac, while the Paul Nairn trotter Habibti Ivy won the Anzac Cup.
