England staged a late comeback to beat the Black Ferns 16-13 in their women's rugby test in London today.
Tries to No 8 Sarah Hunter and wing Katherine Merchant gave England the victory at the Esher Rugby Club as world champions New Zealand blew a 10-point lead.
England opened the scoring with a penalty to No 10 and captain Katy McLean.
But New Zealand struck back when No 8 Casey Robertson charged down a McLean clearing kick to score,
Black Ferns second five-eighth Kelly Brazier added a penalty and that lead was extended to 13-3 shortly after halftime when first-five Kendra Cocksedge showed good footwork to break the line and score.
But England, with some strong work from their pack, had the final say to take a 1-nil lead in the three test series.
