A young Warren Gatland crosses the line against the Lions in 1993.

British and Irish Lions coach Warren Gatland is plotting the downfall of the Chiefs on Tuesday night.

Gatland, a former All Blacks front rower who played 17 matches for New Zealand, scored a try against the touring Lions.

Chat live with Mark Reason about the Lions tour from midday on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Waikato famously won 38-10 over the tourists and Gatland was ranging out wide to score.

Warren Gatland is coaching the Lions now, but it was a different story in 1993 when he was playing against them.

On Tuesday night he'll return to Hamilton when the Lions play the Chiefs in their sixth tour match.

Gatland may have played 140 games for Waikato, but don't expect him to ask his side to take it easy on the Chiefs.

Especially not when you consider the Chiefs thrashed a touring Wales team 40-7 last year.
