The security guard who produced a show-stopping tackle on a streaker at last night's All Blacks game is believed to be a Canterbury rugby player.

The video shows the naked man running across the field, and the resulting take-down by a security guard is doing the rounds on social media today after the All Blacks edged out a narrow victory over England at Dunedin's Forsyth Barr Stadium last night.

The streaker dodged security and took to the field in the second half of the match.

He did not make it far, before a stadium security ran at him from behind and took him down in a hard-hitting tackle.

The security guard then holds him in a headlock, before two others join him to drag the man from the field.

The video has drawn an onslaught of comments from online commentators, criticising the security guard's force in bringing down the naked offender.

Some commentators said the pitch invader was "destroyed" or "hammered" while others called the tackle "over the top". Others light-heartedly suggested the guard deserved to be offered a professional rugby contract.

It is believed the security guard is in Canterbury's ITM Cup wider training squad.

The 28-man squad was named earlier this week. Canterbury head coach Scott Robertson was hesitant to speak about the incident, having only just seen footage of the tackle himself.

When asked if the security guard was part of his wider training squad, he said: "It's all online."

Robertson declined to comment about the nature of the tackle.

Fairfax sports writer Richard Knowler covered the game live for Stuff.co.nz.

At 8.57pm, into the match's second half, he noted: "Now a streaker gets on the field."

"He gets crunched in a sickening king hit by security. Poor form by everyone involved.

"Streaker is being trussed up like a chook by cops ..."

The All Blacks went on to win the match by a slim 28-27 margin after scoring three second half tries, breaking the hearts of the tourists, who had fought their way to a four point lead at halftime.

It is not yet known why the man took to the field, but there is talk he may have been inspired by the day's fully-nude rugby match.

The Nude Blacks had earlier in the afternoon won the traditional nude rugby game the precedes the All Blacks' Dunedin test, against the England Invitational side.
