Dan Carter played a full 80 minutes for Southbridge as he continued his comeback in the Canterbury Country rugby arena.

The All Blacks ace kicked 14 points - two penalties and four conversions - as Southbridge routed Burnham-Dunsandel-Irwell 39-6 at Southbridge Park on Saturday to clinch fifth place in the Combined Country competition.

Carter, who played a half-game for Southbridge last week, ''pulled up well afterwards'' and watched the All Blacks test on television with his clubmates, Southbridge club manager Chris McMillan said.

Coach Doug Maginness said Carter ''did all his core roles well, passing, kicking and tackling. He seems to be coming back into it quite nicely.''

"Todd Blackadder will have to ask him whether he thinks he's up to [playing for the Crusaders against the Hurricanes this weekend]."

Maginness said Carter ''moved the ball through the hands'' and did not run much.

''But he didn't have to. We had plenty of space out wide and he set the backline away.''

Close to 1000 people were on Carter watch at Southbridge and Maginness said his return had been excellent for the team and the club.
