PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Richie McCaw. Hard to go past the captain. McCaw has stood up all year and has strengthened his leadership of the squad. IRB World Player of the Year award deserved.

RUNNER UP

Dan Carter. His best year since 2005. Has taken his tactical kicking to a new level this season and showed against France his running game is not far behind. Key to World Cup success in 2012.

BEST BACK

Sitiveni Sivivatu has broken the line all year, even when the game was at its most turgid. Only three tries this season, but more created for others. Honourable mention: Conrad Smith, Ma'a Nonu, Cory Jane.

BEST FORWARD

Brad Thorn. What more can be said about this mans contribution. The epitome of professionalism. At 34 one wonders how long he can keep going, but his most recent season was probably his best. Honourable mention: Andrew Hore

UP AND COMER

Zac Guildford. Clearly has a big future at test level. Mounted a challenge for the top side on his first tour. Can improve kicking and catching game.

PRESSURE ON

Brendon Leonard seems to have lost his confidence and sharpness.

Liam Messam hasn't grasped his opportunity yet. Still a big talent, but is he an openside?

No 8 Rodney So'oialo was out of the test 22 by tours end. Can't be written off and a summer off could led to a big Super 14.

Stephen Donald has done nothing wrong on the tour, but may need to reinvent himself as a second five option to stay in contention.

Jason Eaton's been leapfrogged by Anthony Boric on tour in a locking battle that's suddenly become very crowded.

PRESSURE OFF

Kieran Read had his best game in black against France and is now clearly established as the top No 8. Ferocious defence and huge work rate.

Tom Donnelly has been a revelation. A late bloomer, who seems to grow with every test.

Mils Muliaina is back to his brilliant best and on his day remains the world's best fullback.

Neemia Tialata shoved his critics words down their throats. Fitter and leaner he is still the best tighthead in New Zealand.
