New Zealand-born loose forward Thomas Waldrom has replaced Phil Dowson on England's bench for the second test against South Africa at Ellis Park on Saturday.
England's Rugby Football Union says on Friday that Dowson has been withdrawn from the match-day 22 with a tight hamstring.
Uncapped Leicester No. 8 Waldrom scored two tries and won the man of the match award in the midweek game against South Africa Barbarians South in Kimberley and was key in England's 54-26 win.
Waldrom will add valuable bulk for England against a typically physical Springboks pack.
England trails 1-0 in the three-match series after a narrow 22-17 loss in Durban last weekend.
