Wallabies lock Kane Douglas's European tour is ending better than it started with some positive news on the health of his mother Trish who suffered a stroke on a flight to watch her son play in Paris three weeks ago.

Trish Douglas has been in a London hospital since the incident but permission has been granted for Douglas's father Chris to take his wife back to Australia this weekend.

The news comes as Douglas makes his return to action on the tour against Wales in Cardiff on Saturday (Sunday NZT).

The 23-year-old suffered a knee injury in the 33-6 loss to France in the first game of the tour and has been sidelined since.

Douglas remained in London for two weeks to continue his rehabilitation and stay with his family including brother Luke who plays for NRL club Gold Coast.

"It's been a tough couple of weeks but it was good I stayed London with the family and went and saw mum every day," Douglas said.

"I've coped alright. It was pretty hard at the start but I find that I can switch on to rugby mode when I have to.

"I think mum would want me to do that anyway, she just can't tell me at the minute.

"She's going alright. She's improving everyday. Only little things but it's going to be pretty gradual.

"I suppose the best thing is they are heading back tomorrow.

"They're heading back to Sydney, that's where I live and dad will be able to stay with me and mum will be able to do her rehab in hospital there."
