Ma'a Nonu has extended his stay at French giants Toulon.

The former All Blacks star has signed a one-year extension through to June 2018, Toulon boss Mourad Boudjellal announced on Friday (NZ time).

Nonu joined Toulon after the 2015 World Cup final where he helped the All Blacks to back to back titles.

The 34-year-old midfield back has had his struggles in France but has reportedly been in solid form this season for Toulon, scoring three tries in 19 appearances across all competitions.

Toulon have had a mixed season with eight wins, eight losses and a draw in the French Top 14 to lie fifth on the points table.

They are still alive in Europe's Champions Cup, facing a tough quarter-final against fellow French outfit Clermont in early April.

Nonu played 103 tests for the All Blacks.
