The Queensland Reds looks set to tussle with the new Melbourne Rebels for the services of league convert Mark Gasnier in next year's Super 15.

It looks increasingly like Gasnier will return to Australia from France to launch a bid for the Wallabies’ World Cup squad.

Gasnier met Melbourne coach Rod Maqueen last week and now Reds coach Ewen McKenzie, who introduced Gasnier to rugby at French club Stade Francais, says Queensland would be interested in his services.

''I know him really well, so if he wants to talk about rugby we can talk on Skype or whatever. It's up to him to work out what he wants to do. You have to look at every player of ability and consider all the possibilities," McKenzie told the Daily Telegraph.

Mckenzie believes Gasnier has test potential, noting that he was being picked every week in a Stade Francais side full of internationals.

"I think he could play at that level. He has played 50-plus games already in rugby union so he is accruing a fair bit of experience," McKenzie said.
