Former Wallabies fullback Julian Huxley has made an accomplished return to rugby union after a two-year absence following the detection of a brain tumour.

Huxley, who played nine tests for the Wallabies in 2007, set up three tries in a 36-16 win for the Brumby Runners against the Junior Waratahs at Knox Grammar School in Sydney's northern suburbs.

Contracted to the Brumbies to the end of this year, 30-year-old Huxley ran, kicked and passed with assurance, though he admitted to still being a little tentative in the contact area.

Huxley said he wanted to come back better than he was before the detection of the tumour and a consequent operation and still had aspirations to play again for both the Brumbies and the Wallabies.

The Runners are effectively the Brumbies' reserve grade unit.

Huxley is likely to play next week for the Brumbies Academy against a Canberra club side in the next step of his comeback.

"I've stayed pretty fit through the last couple of years and I knew what I could do," Huxley told reporters after the game.

"I never got too worried about it because I couldn't expect after what I've been through for people to know how I was feeling.

"I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't think I could get back and be as good if not better."

Huxley cleared the last bureaucratic hurdle to playing when he signed a clearance with Brumbies chief executive Andrew Fagan on Saturday morning.
