All Blacks prop Wyatt Crockett is a late withdrawal from the Canterbury team to play Northland in Whangarei tomorrow.

Crockett bruised a calf after colliding with a team-mate during training yesterday and didn't take part in this morning's captain's run.

Canterbury, the ITM Cup front-runners, won't risk Crockett for this seventh round clash.

Andrew Olorenshaw will wear the No1 jersey in his place, with Rodney Ah You coming on to the reserves bench as cover.

The match is notable for Sonny Bill Williams' first start for Canterbury. He will play at second five-eighths.

CANTERBURY: Sean Maitland, Patrick Osborne, Robbie Fruean, Sonny Bill Williams, Telusa Veainu, Stephen Brett, Andy Ellis, Ash Parker, George Whitelock (captain), Matt Todd, Issac Ross, Luke Romano, Peter Borlase, Steve Fualau, Andrew Olorenshaw. Reserves: Marcel Cummings-Toon, Rodney Ah You, Rob Verbakel, Brendon O'Connor, Willi Heinz, Sam Monaghan, Robbie Flynn.
